Compagnie Coloniale | The history
Founded in 1848, at 19 rue de l’Opéra in Paris, Compagnie Coloniale started with a business importing and distributing chocolates.
The company was bought by the teas of the Elephant and Unilever before being taken over by Vincent Balaÿ in 2010.
Passionate by the history of the brand and its teams, he searches for antique tea tins. Maybe or a reissue soon….
180 teas !!! The collection features the best classic to very original aromatic assemblies (caramel & flowers, wasabi & strawberry !!)
Compagnie Coloniale, the tea that reminds us teatime at our grandmother. (Well, not for me, as my Japanese grandmother did not know the brand. 🙂 I discovered the bag teas at the show Tranoï and remember being pleasantly surprised and wanting to taste the loose leaves… The tea bag are made in France in a silk like fabric in berlingo® shaped which allow the leaves to brew as a tea in bulk!
Moreover, the blends in the bags and loose tea are equivalent! Great!
I’m always a little wary with flavored teas … I find too easy to add synthetic flavorings to bad quality tea of batches.
Compagnie Coloniale flavours quality teas with an technique which is the signature of the brand.
The tea leaves and natural aromas are hydrated with steam . The leaves are well preserved and the flavours subtle
I love the “Earl grey supérieur” with its Chinese black tea flavoured with bergamot, cornflowers and calendula.
For tea time @SimoneLemon, I was recomended the caramel & fleurs which is a blend of Chinese black teas flavoured with burnt sugar and sprinkled with burnt sugar chips and flowers. Aromas are very natural and subtle !!!
To discover or rediscover. Ideal for a gift “Made In France”.
